Dana Holgorsen was officially announced as the Head Coach of the Houston Cougars. He’s replacing Major Applewhite, who lasted just two seasons. Holgorsen is known as an offensive innovator and his teams always seem to put up big numbers. However, the offensive success, did not lead to Big 12 championships for West Virginia.
I think time had just run its course for Holgorsen, the visor wearing, Red Bull chugging head of the Mountaineers. He’s been an assistant at Houston before, so he knows the area. I think recruiting the hotbed that is Texas should be beneficial to him as well.
I believe that Houston is trying to position itself into moving to the Big 12 at some point, and if they can succeed with Holgorsen, then that has a big chance of happening. Houston has been a solid Group of 5 program before and I don’t see why they can’t jump up the rankings again.
