The former Texas Tech head coach has finalized a deal to be the next coach of the Arizona Cardinals. After being fired by Texas Tech, Kingsbury was hired as Offensive Coordinator at USC. That business relationship barely lasted, and now Kingsbury will need to pay $150k buyout to join the Cardinals.
I like Kingsbury and I thought it was weird that Texas Tech would let him go. I know he’s an offensive innovator, but it’s weird that NFL teams are now jumping over recently fired college coaches who had a record around .500.
I don’t know if this is going to work, but the Cardinals need to give it time. I didn’t think it was right to fire Steve Wilks after one season, especially with how bad that roster is. I guess the team thinks that Kingsbury will be able to better guide Josh Rosen, whom they hope is their franchise quarterback. Only time will tell.
