The NFL coaching news coming out today is that the Green Bay Packers have found their man. The team is going to hire Titans Offensive Coordinator, Matt LaFleur. The news originally came from Schefty, but all the big outlets have picked up on it as well.
The original plan apparently called for more interviews, but the team decided that LaFleur was their guy and wanted to pounce before another team had a chance to hire him. The league is trending towards mostly offensive-minded head coaches, and LaFleur is just the latest young up and comer to get his chance at managing a team.
I don’t have much of an opinion him quite yet, but he has worked under Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay, both of whom seem to be coaching stars. He’s risen through the ranks quickly, as he’s only been an offensive coordinator for two years, but the Packers seemed to like his style and are the first head coaching vacancy to be filled.
Lastly, check out this 2013 Redskins Staff (courtesy of Matt Terl):
They had Shanahan, LaFleur, and McVay on the same staff and ended up hiring Jay Gruden. Go figure.
